GCIUS 2016 News - Week of 16th Oct

This week, the GCIUS team welcomed their orientation committees' director, Dr. Nathalie Roy, to Nepal. Her role for the past year has been to help assist the group in all of the decisions they have had to make regarding the project. She is now in Nepal to give advice, motivate and coach everyone for a total of ten days, which matches the mid-mandate term of the project.

Earlier this week, Justine, Danny, Virginie and Nathalie attended an important meeting with members of CECI, LDMPCU and the milk processing center construction contractor. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss about the slow progress of that main project. To date, only the foundation had been partially dug with some materials shipped. Finally, the contractor assured the team that workers would arrive by the 24 of October and that the construction would also start then. Another meeting would also be scheduled for the 27 of October with all of the actors involved, including members of the government.

On Saturday, three members of the team, Justine, Virginie and Samuel, went to Sankhu, along with Nathalie and Kumar (GCIUS translator). This was the second visit of the GCIUS team to the location of the future milk pipeline. This time, the plan was to do some land surveying, so that they could collect data about distances, slope inclination and the number of poles required.

Overall, the team felt like the project was well received. A lot of locals helped by showing the way, holing poles or going through steep areas for measurements. Also, a lot of important data was collected for a first draft and these will be helpful to go forward with design until next time.
